How to Save the Miami Heat: Michael "Beastly" or D-Rose

The Miami Heat can make it back into the playoffs next season by winning either the 1st or 2nd overall pick in the NBA draft and then picking one of two players:

Michael Beasley 6'9" SF/PF

or,

Derrick Rose 6'3" 195 lb. PG

If we win the top pick, the choice is obviously Kansas State's Beasley. I've heard a lot of people compare him to Antawn Jamison, but I don't think that's the best comparison (overall, I think he has the potential to be a much better scorer, low-post option, rebounder, passer and shooter). The way I see it, Beasley reminds me more of a Carmelo Anthony/Carlos Boozer hybrid. He has both Melo's ability to isolate on the wing and blow by his defender, and Boozer's ability to plow his way through the paint. He can play either forward spot...either him at the 3 and Shawn Marion at the 4, or vice versa. And Udonis Haslem can come off the bench. I'm calling it right now: B-Easy can waltz right into the NBA and average 18-19 PPG and 9-10 RPG his rookie season.

If we wind up with the #2 overall pick, I can definitely settle for Memphis' Derrick Rose. I don't know who most people are comparing him to, but I actually think...and this is gonna sound retarded...I see a little bit of Antonio Daniels in him. Only ten thousand times better. If all goes well, Rose should basically be everything Daniels was supposed to be after getting drafted 4th overall by Vancouver in 1997: a tall, super-athletic PG that can shoot, score, dunk, run, dish, defend, and rebound. Rose already has a killer first step; great court vision and awareness; and can out-leap most other point guards, so once he fine-tunes his outside jumper, he'll be set. Rose and Dwyane Wade can be the NBA's best backcourt. With Rose at the 1, Wade at the 2, Dorell Wright (or Marion) at the 3, Marion at the 4 (or Haslem), and then anyone EXCEPT Mark Blount at the 5, you'll have the most athletic starting five in the whole league. It'll be like what the Golden State Warriors are doing right now...a whole bunch of running and lobbying and dunking and fast-breaking and shooting.

One of these two things...either of them...need to happen for this team to matter again.
